The following translation is an excerpt from Denpa-kei, a book written by Nemoto Takashi and Murasaki Hyakuro (1996).

Types of Denpa: The True Nature of Denpa Waves Revealed by a Delusional, Sadistic Man by Murasaki Hyakuro

In a public restroom of a certain provincial city, a middle school girl was stabbed to death by a vagrant. Arrested after standing dazed beside the body, the vagrant confessed during police questioning: “After entering the restroom to urinate, I turned on the faucet to wash my hands, and the order to kill came from there.” This is one example of a tragic murder committed under the influence of denpa waves.

Several summers ago, in the middle of the platform at Koenji Station, a yakuza-looking man wearing sunglasses and a flashy Hawaiian shirt cheerfully laughed as he exposed a conspiracy, shouting, “You guys shouldn’t be riding the train right now! The XX-gumi shouldn’t be sending out denpa waves to make people kill!”

Ordinary citizens on the platform, ignorant of denpa, completely ignored him. He seemed high as he shouted with a strangely cheerful and jolly air.

Exposing conspiracies was likely his life’s mission.

The above is a common story about denpa. In reality, “denpa waves” exist everywhere and at all times to those who can receive them. Dealing with them involves no small amount of danger. But if you ask me, all of life is a battle of delusions. Those who can harbor many delusions gain rich imagination and a clear purpose in life.

Now then, where to begin… Naturally, with denpa waves. Yes, they’re everywhere.

That being said, I believe I deal with them quite objectively. This isn’t because I’m some “chosen one,” as the voices in my head constantly insist. It’s simply because my distrustful nature, my stubborn refusal to believe anything easily, has served me well.

I’m a denpa wave-receiving nutcase. Please read this with that in mind.

How I Started Receiving

I probably started receiving denpa waves directly into my mind from birth. I could hear them as soon as I became sentient. As a kid, I thought it was normal for humans and never doubted that everyone else received denpa waves, just like me.

Admittedly, hearing them annoyed me at times, but what bothered me more were the strange lights that occasionally flashed across my vision. Back then, I frequently saw bizarre visions composed of vividly colored lights, or ghostly(?) things. My parents said I was a peculiar child who wasn’t afraid at all of the dark and would even walk around it willingly. I was probably seeing a lot of light back then. Fortunately, these visual experiences have since died down.

I only realized this was unusual after starting elementary school and playing with new friends. When I did realize it, I was a bit startled, but even as a child, I sensed that I shouldn’t mention it to anyone, including close friends. Of course, back then, I didn’t call them denpa waves yet. I think I referred to them as “weird sounds” and “voices.”

Since then, until now at the age of thirty-four, denpa waves have been a constant presence in my life. There were periods when the signals were so strong they felt like they might drive me mad, and other times when the volume was low enough that I could live my life in peace. Overall, for humans, denpa waves are absolutely unnecessary. In real life, they’re just noisy and useless; I’ve gained almost nothing from hearing them. At best, they let you pass the time without boredom in a hospital waiting room devoid of magazines.

Strictly speaking for myself, denpa wave reception is always tied to my physical condition. When I’m sick or weak, sometimes all the sounds within a several mile radius come directly into my head, along with sleep paralysis. It feels like endless static is exploding inside my skull–it’s pure torture. The cries of dogs and cats, children’s laughter mingled with TV and radio broadcasts, work conversations between a boss and subordinate at some company, a middle-aged couple arguing, siblings singing together in the bath, a vagrant’s mutterings, the chirping of crickets, the distinct sound of slugs… What meaning could there possibly be in hearing all this? None at all, probably.

There are other factors as well. There seem to be more denpa waves at night than during the day, and there’s definitely more during new and full moons. It seems there must be some connection to natural phenomena. I haven’t actually looked into it in detail, but sunspot activity probably triggers them as well.

Classification of Denpa Waves

Well, there’s no point in talking about this in bits and pieces, so I’ll try to systematically classify the denpa waves coming to me as clearly as possible from here on. This is my first attempt at writing up something like this, so there’s a chance my head might get taken over by denpa waves as I go. Readers, please keep that in mind as you read. If the writing starts to get weird halfway through, just assume it’s the influence of the denpa waves.

And one more thing to remember before we begin: what follows is written by “forcing” what wasn’t originally language into words. I’m not confident that most of it can be expressed properly. So please read with an open mind.

Not all denpa waves are created equal. In my case, some of them arrive alone, while others arrive simultaneously in groups. The time it takes to receive them also varies wildly. Some are like “voices,” arriving at a steady pace akin to human speech, while others deliver massive amounts of information the instant they’re received. To put it another way, it’s like having TV, radio, cable, laser discs, Walkmans, electric massagers, economy razors, and Higo bamboo shoots all mixed together. Even though we lump them all under the term “denpa waves,” they feel like a completely different medium.

Broadly speaking, they can be divided into “language” and “non-language,” “meaningful” and “meaningless,” “fast” and “slow.” Anyways, this time I’ll explain it so everyone reading can understand.

1. Denpa Waves with Unclear Messages

In my case, about forty percent of my total transmissions are of this caliber.

These can be further classified into sounds, music, and other languages (?), but the most common is “sound.” And mostly noise. The variety is endless: sounds of insects, wind, waves–fragments of every kind of natural sound are still better than the other types. Among the painful sounds are those that clearly feel like those of another planet. They aren’t necessarily loud, noisy types, but hearing them is still extremely painful.

When sounds from another celestial body arrive, I get a bit antsy. And describing what this sound is like is incredibly difficult. Perhaps “having your soul scraped away” would come closest to it? It’s an unpleasant sound to recall, like my body is being sliced from behind by a huge knife. It’s quiet, irregular, and listening to it makes me anxious. I don’t know why I call it the “sounds of a celestial body,” but it’s based on advice from “something” residing in a certain part of my brain. This sound used to come often when I was a teenager, but now it only comes once every few years.

In stark contrast, there’s another sound–a sweet, body-melting pleasurable sensation. When I receive this signal, my whole body becomes sweet as honey, and bees actually start swarming around me, which is quite a hassle. Personally, I call it the “pheromone sound.” It’s a signal that visited me frequently before I started elementary school. I say it’s a sound, but it’s barely audible. I know when it’s there because my body instantly becomes sweet. Sometimes it’s accompanied by phantom smells–a scent that’s sweet, like a rose.

Beyond that, I hear countless other sounds: the sound of someone dying, the sound of a soul entering a mother’s womb, the sound of the moon rising (and waxing and waning), the sound of Earth’s axis tilting, the sound of the morning sun dancing, the sound of Pluto spinning, the sound of distant galactic explosions (?)... The list goes on and on. What clearly distinguishes these sounds from those experienced in daily life is that they don’t come from the ears, but seem to swell right in the center of my head. Each sound probably carries some complex message, but paying attention and letting them affect me feels irritating, so I deliberately pretend not to notice.

“Other languages” is a general term for audio waves that aren’t Japanese. These are truly the epitome of irrelevant denpa waves, somewhat akin to listening to foreign broadcasts on shortwave radio. The ones reaching me aren’t particularly loud either, so it’s like working while listening to the Far East Network. You can turn off the radio, but with these brainwave broadcasts, no matter how much I want them to stop, they just keep droning on endlessly.

However, when a translation signal reaches my brain, I can occasionally understand the message from these foreign language waves. I’m pretty sure I once received something like a distress signal from the North Atlantic in 1654 (a shipwreck, maybe? There was no radio back then, so who knows). These brainwaves seem to transcend time and space, arriving indiscriminately from both the future and the past. The problem is, most of them are agonized cries or tragic messages. Even if I receive them, there’s nothing I can do about it. So I don’t really want to hear things like a distant farewell from 1825 of a girl dying of illness. Well, my emotions are broken anyway, so I don’t particularly care either way.

Other languages include English and French. There’s Mandarin, Cantonese, Hangul, the Kagoshima dialect (which is meaningless to me), and something that sounds like Hebrew, but I can’t tell. Some signals sound like conversations between people while others sound like broadcasts from a bar. The most common are long, droning voices reading something aloud (like religious texts). Some signals are incredibly ancient and powerful. Probably languages from other celestial bodies too, but I couldn’t care less. I have absolutely no interest in these signals, like all those entertainers-turned-occultists do. I don’t care about the existence of aliens; a life without denpa transmissions sounds far more appealing.

2. Emotionally Manipulative Denpa Waves (Tasteless/Odorless/Silent)

These make up just under ten percent of all the waves reaching me.

Suddenly, intense feelings of sorrow or joy arrive as if carried on the wind. While dissimilar to the “pheromone waves” mentioned earlier, these tasteless, odorless waves exert a powerful influence on the body. The “grinning waves” and “whimpering waves” mentioned by K*wamata, the perpetrator of the Fukugawa stabbing incident, likely fall into this category. Indeed, these waves possess a malicious nature. When paired with attack commands, individuals with little willpower become unable to resist, genuinely harming or even killing people. I, however, have developed techniques to dodge these through years of living with denpa waves. Writing this might make me sound crazy, but I am crazy, so I’ll continue to write for the masses.

A method for mitigating these waves is to immediately design an emotionally opposing wave in your brain and collide it with the incoming wave. For example, if you’re being attacked by a “grinning wave,” counter it with a “whining wave.” If it’s a wave with a ratio of “three joy, eight anger, seventeen sorrow, and one pleasure,” counter it with “eight joy, three anger, one sorrow, and seventeen pleasure.” I always intercept it with the exact opposite wave to neutralize the incoming signal. Incidentally, this must be done before the incoming wave’s attack takes control of your body and mind.

Another method to counter these waves involves me temporarily withdrawing completely from this body, along with my self-awareness.

It takes only an instant–I become empty and ride it out. It’s like evacuating outside while still carrying the receiver. Staying out too long risks having my entire body swept up in something strange, so utmost caution is needed. When I return to my body, I faintly sense the waves receding. It’s a huge relief.

I think it’s because I’ve kept doing this that I have the sense that “myself” is a mass of consciousness, “riding” or “piloting” the vehicle of “my body.”

3. Sensory Distortion Denpa Waves

These waves target your senses, not your emotions. They make up less than one percent of all waves and aren’t exactly common, but when they hit, your mental state suffers tremendously. Some attack multiple senses simultaneously, and even now, I still get a bit disoriented when that happens. There are several patterns to these, so I’ll explain them step by step.

*Anti-Gravity Waves

These waves are among the fastest of all incoming waves. Some of the waves introduced so far are like monsters. With those, you might get a premonition right before they hit. But these waves always strike completely unexpectedly, leaving you utterly unprepared. They’re incredibly troublesome in that sense. For instance, when you receive this signal, you’re struck by the terror of suddenly finding yourself pulled up to 30,000 meters in the air, enveloped by the feeling that you’re about to fall. It’s accompanied by a crazy sensation of floating, making it impossible to stand. It feels like your consciousness is being pulled up along with your body by some huge, invisible force, being flung away. Suddenly, gravity vanishes and you feel like you’re plummeting. The sensation of floating and falling feels incredibly real. Even walking down the street, you momentarily struggle to keep your footing. It’s embarrassing, but you have to crouch down, press your hands against the ground, and confirm you’re still on solid earth.

These waves vary slightly in intensity. With stronger ones, you might even feel the wind hitting your body during the fall (and smell it too). Weaker ones bring a sense of bodily disintegration, like a portion of yourself is being pulled skyward. Since it’s only a portion, it’s not terribly frightening, and you can stay calm when it comes. Still, it’s annoying to deal with.

*Body Disintegration Waves

When this wave comes, you’re overwhelmed by the sensation of your body splitting apart.

It doesn’t always split in the same way either. For instance, sometimes it feels like my skin is being flayed layer by layer; other times, it feels like I’m being sliced vertically in centimeter increments, slowly separating; or like countless transparent versions of myself, like astral bodies, are bursting out from my body. There’s also the sensation where a part of my body rapidly inflates and deflates, stretching out in a certain direction, and each time it happens, I’m enveloped in a completely different feeling, leaving me clueless as to what will happen to my body next. I contract repeatedly, stretching out in a certain direction. Each time, I’m enveloped in a completely different sensation, and I have absolutely no idea what will happen to my body next time.

This wave isn’t particularly frightening. There’s a slight delay between receiving the signal and the body splitting, and the physical changes aren’t as abrupt as with the anti-gravity wave. This gives me time to mentally prepare, even allowing me to somewhat enjoy watching my body fragment.

When combined with the dimension-transcending wave, which accesses somewhere beyond spacetime, situations like this arise: “Just as I thought the sensation in my left hand from the wrist down had completely vanished, my left hand was enveloped by the dimensional transcendence wave and vanished through a rift in the spacetime continuum. Yet, I feel something rough and stony against my left fingertips. I probed with an information wave and discovered that my left hand was touching the wall of some castle in Macedonia, apparently from 323 BC.” Hearing this, you might have the leisure to think, “Isn’t this just a hallucination?” which is fine. But in a somnambulistic split-state where the sensation of your hand vanishes into nothingness, only to return after causing mischief somewhere far away, the true horror lies in the fact that only when the hand returns do you learn what it was doing elsewhere. The hand has been doing all sorts of things in another time and space: kneading some unknown woman’s breasts, pulling a trigger, pressing some kind of launch button. Well, I’d like to believe that the sensation in my hand resonated with the hand that did those things, and that’s how it brought back those memories.

*Dream Waves

These waves connect your dreams to someone else’s when received. When it hits, you end up sharing the same dream as whoever’s nearby, allowing communication within that shared dream. It’s incredibly fun if the person you connect with is your lover, but I’ve only had that experience twice so far. Most of the time, you end up connected to complete strangers you couldn’t care less about. The absolute worst is when you connect to your own past nightmares (my past self is practically a stranger now). In those cases, you suffer in a nightmare amplified two or three times over, pushed to the brink of madness. The characteristic of the waves that come to me is that bad things happen far more often than good.

This is absolutely mere coincidence, but last year, while experiencing these dream transmissions, I repeatedly dreamt of killing a nasty old geezer from a nearby house. Afterwards, the old man actually kicked the bucket. I can’t say for sure who I was connected to, but given how incredibly real the vision of killing him was, it was definitely either the geezer himself or someone close to him.

This old man was the picture-perfect, arrogant, high-class, posh jerk. Every time we passed each other on the street, he’d glare at me suspiciously, like he was looking at something utterly inhuman (well… he was right about that part). I’d just stare back, like, “Hey old man, you’re still alive? When’s the funeral?” We were that close (to be honest, I’d decided that if Tokyo got hit by an earthquake on the scale of the Kanto Earthquake, I’d absolutely kill that bastard in the chaos. If hundreds of thousands died, no one would care about one or two murders. Plenty of people think like that, so you better learn to defend yourself.).

Seeing him die so spectacularly feels like I cursed him to death, which is kind of a rush. But really, I probably just sensed the old man’s time was up and saw it in a dream. I have to think that way to cope. My own desire probably seeped in a bit, letting me experience a vivid murder scene.

Come to think of it, humans die eventually. So it’s not weird at all that people who constantly wished they’d die start dropping like flies. I’ve had nearly ten similar cases myself (for some reason, accidents and sudden deaths are common), but they’re all coincidences, my imagination, or just me being overly self-conscious. Spirits and the spiritual world are delusions. There’s absolutely no such thing as unscientific stuff like cursed deaths! Hehehe, it’s all just plasma. P-L-A-S-M-A.

*Nightmare Waves

These are waves that make you feel like someone else’s hands are crawling all over your body. It’s not exactly pleasant. Since the other person’s hands have no substance, they can easily pass right through clothes, skin, or even internal organs. The feeling of having your organs rearranged is utterly horrifying. It’s one reason I yell “Shut up!!” in the middle of the night. I sometimes wonder if this is what those old books describe as a “nightmare demon.” What do you think? Some say it’s caused by sexual energy running wild inside you or something, but to me, in terms of the discomfort caused, it’s definitely denpa.

*Paranoia Amplification Waves

These waves themselves contain no information, but when received, they make you feel as though everyone around you–sometimes even plants and animals–are speaking ill of you with intense malice. They are truly nasty waves that amplify paranoia.

In the worst cases, this wave can drive recipients to believe things like, “Ahhh, the whole town hates me. It’s over, it’s so over. Being so despised and hated, I have no choice but to kill them all and then myself. That’s for the sake of the entire galaxy and the stray cat in Koenji Minami 3-chome!” It corners them into suicide. The perpetrators of mass shootings in places like America must be receiving these signals. It’s truly a story of karmic retribution, but it’s probably the resentment of the buffalo slaughtered at the nation’s founding, the Indians, the Black people enslaved and bullied to death, and the civilians killed in Vietnam. America is a country steeped in such karmic debt.

This denpa wave tormented me for quite some time, but then I just gave up and thought, “Why do I care what other people think? Who cares what anyone thinks of me? If they come to kill me, I’ll kill them back!” From that point on, I started looking forward to their hatred, and gradually, it stopped affecting me. Taking everything as criticism directed at myself (though it’s way more intense than that) and humbly hating others is actually quite convenient. It makes it crystal clear who truly hates me and who I should attack.

These days, I don’t even bother trying to be liked by anyone. Basically, I live aggressively with the mindset that “everyone else is either someone to use or attack or kill.” So any hatred coming my way from others is just a drop in the bucket. It’s those weak, refined modern humans who try to charm even the pigs they plan to slaughter and devour. Don’t fuck with me. The pigs you’re going to kill aren’t going to like you. Slaughter them mercilessly, eat them whole, digest every last drop of their resentment–that’s the proper courtesy owed to a life from whose existence you’re ending.

I show absolutely no mercy to the hatred that attacks me. I bite, I tear, I rip flesh, crush bones, drag out their entrails, and dance with their heads on my shoulders! The murderous intent smoldering inside me waits deep within, always ready to surface at the slightest chance. Ah, yes. I’m waiting. Always waiting. Any time is fine. I want to return, to settle scores, to kill, with all my might. Ironically, as long as this desire exists, I’m incredibly resistant to those paranoia amplification waves.

*Suicide Waves

These waves make you want to die when you receive them, or their voices lure you to death. If you try to listen, they’re surprisingly easy to hear–the most common, everyday kind of voices. I’m now incredibly resilient to this sort of wave. I can listen to them completely unfazed, laughing away.

It’s highly likely that those who suddenly commit suicide are picking up this kind of signal. At night, these signals lie lurking in every dark corner, luring people to their deaths with kind voices.

“...It’s okay now, you know… Let’s sleep together… Let’s find peace… Come on, right this way…”

Stand on a building rooftop or cliff edge, and you’ll find countless of these “voices.” Stand beside the sea, a lake, a river, or a marsh, and the water itself will beckon you in the same way. I’ve always suspected that a certain percentage of those who perish in snowy mountain climbs are picking up suicide signals from the mountains themselves.

Of course, these “voices” are everywhere. Even at the factory where I work, temptations like that constantly come from deep within the flour milling machines. Unfortunately, someone at our factory gave in and lost everything below the ankle. But I suppose that’s just freedom of choice. Needless to say, these suicide waves are among the most untrustworthy of all. Even if you hear them, there’s absolutely no need to pay them any mind.

There’s so much more I want to say about these signals, but I’ve covered that in a separate interview with Nemoto. Some of the worst ones even go so far as to claim things like “there’s bliss after shedding the physical body” or “true life only begins after death.” Who could possibly believe such nonsense? What happens after death can be thought of after death.

4. Denpa Waves with Clear Messages

These are primarily waves that bring specific images or words. Further categorization yields the following:

*Prediction/Prophecy Waves

While many prophetic waves are technically indistinguishable, we’ll provisionally classify them here as conveying messages.

Like many other signals, deja vu premonition/prophecy signals arrive abruptly. How do I explain… It’s like “hearing a scene”–a sensation where visual and auditory information arrive simultaneously. It’s also highly complex, involving the feeling of instantly forgetting and instantly recalling the received images and sounds. It’s accompanied by a sense of deja vu. It’s like recalling something from long ago, with a “Oh, yeah, that happened,” feeling, kinda like seeing/hearing the future (?). It might be interesting if it were a major disaster or something, but in my case, it’s mostly trivial stuff that’s hardly ever useful. Feeling what’s just a moment ahead happens often, but otherwise, I end up feeling/seeing landscapes from years in the future, somewhere I’ll probably never even go if I live that long.

Ah, so maybe it’s more accurate to say it’s not prophetic, but rather random visual information from somewhere else among time and space. It feels like watching a scene of someone I’ve never met or had seen once, filled with all sorts of emotions. Whose memory is this? Maybe space itself remembers unique “vibrations” of these events and is spinning them around the world.

*Voices (Gods, Demons, Freemasons, etc.)

We’ve finally reached the most representative type of denpa waves known to the general public. It’s likely that the majority of these waves are suffered by lonely warriors–the type who make strange flyers and fight conspiracy organizations in secret. This is the most annoying and troublesome type of wave: you hear strange voices speaking fairly specific things directly into your head. They come in various forms: meaningless conversations between strangers, or voices lecturing on some obscure theory.

But the most troublesome are the preaching voices. They claim to be gods, Buddhas, or higher-dimensional beings, then unilaterally spout blessings, sermons, and other words of wisdom you didn’t ask for and don’t want to hear. They come with a somewhat warm resonance or a sweet scent. Whether it’s doctrine or madness, they continuously ignore my will. It’s unbearable. Compared to this, religious surveys at train stations are cute little nuisances.

These voices usually put on airs, spouting nonsense like “You are the chosen one,” “Fulfill your mission,” or “You must spread my gospel to many.” Shut up, you idiots. Winning the lottery might be one thing, but whether I win something like that or am “the chosen one” doesn’t make me happy or anything. I guess the idiots who take this seriously become warriors fighting global conspiracies, starting weird religions, or holding seminars to make money. What a pain in the ass.

And of course, some voices encourage “evil.” Honestly, my heart leans more towards those. But whether good or evil, they all start the same way: “You are the chosen one…” So damn arrogant and pushy.

Yeah, yeah, that’s all well and good. Now get the hell outta here, you idiot. I don’t need your guidance to do evil. I’ll do it my own way. This is my body. Like I need orders from you lot. I’ve ignored these voices countless times, and nothing special ever happened because of it. They say I’m chosen, but honestly, for them, it probably doesn’t matter who hears the “voice,” does it? The fact that it reaches a scumbag like me–who isn’t a good person by any stretch–is proof enough.

As I mentioned earlier in the interview, the reason I can stay calm even when I pick up these signals is because I hear not just one voice, but many. If I heard just one, I might’ve gotten carried away with it. But with so many different kinds coming at me, I just can’t trust any of them. Some might be genuine, but they all say pretty much the same thing. My premonitions tell me that if I act on these voices, things might start out okay, but eventually I’ll get dragged along by them, lose myself, and inevitably self-destruct. The “voices” seem kind at first glance, but they’re actually alluring, dangerous denpa waves.

You readers out there might one day start hearing voices too. If that happens, remain calm. Hearing the “voices” isn’t a big deal. Whatever you do, don’t get carried away by them, thinking you’re some “special chosen one” or that you have a “mission to save humanity.”

Lately, there are people calling themselves “mediums.” To those seemingly well-meaning folks, I want to say this: If you truly wish to improve, stop immediately passing on the words of some unknown entity to others without discernment. Think for yourself. If you genuinely believe something is good for the world and want to “share” it, speak in your own words. Fundamentally, this world belongs to the living and those yet to be born. Don’t let dubious “voices” run rampant. Live your own truth. That’s my advice, coming from someone who’s heard many “voices.”

As a supplement, some research on spiritualism suggests that “there are plenty of lunatics in the spirit world too.” For example, it is said that a person who died with the delusion that they were Christ retains that delusion even as a spirit. In the spirit world, entities such as “self-proclaimed Christ, Buddha, Nostradamus, Moses and Ahura Mazda spirits” exist not just by the dozen, but by the gross. These entities apparently show up at seances and spout nonsense. It’s extremely dangerous to assume all psychic phenomena originate from spirits, but I’ve personally encountered over twenty different voices claiming to be Christ, each with a distinct tone. So, the true nature of these “voices” might just be such deranged entities. Still, doesn’t the afterlife have any mental hospitals for ‘em?

*Conspiracy-Exposing Waves

Beyond the “voices” representing benevolent entities like gods or Buddhas, or malevolent ones like demons and evil spirits, there also exist peculiar denpa waves that expose the secrets of conspiracy organizations manipulating the world from the shadows–voices neither good nor evil. Of course, these come in two types: some reveal the entire structure of the conspiracy the instant they’re received, while others involve the “voice” slowly and meticulously explaining the conspiracy organization’s structure. At the same time, you become acutely aware of the presence constantly watching you–the one who discovered the conspiracy (a kind of delusional amplification signal, which is probably definitely a delusion). This creates a synergistic effect, making the revealed conspiracy seem incredibly real.

In my own experience, it’s intense–even inside my room, I can clearly sense the existence of countless listening devices at my workplace and the presence of conspiracy organization members surrounding my apartment to monitor me. At its worst, I can hear not just the breathing of the detective lurking behind the hedge three houses down from my apartment, but even the sound of him sucking in air through his nose. You’d think anyone would realize by now that this is just a delusion, but when those signals are coming in, it becomes incredibly difficult to see or hear things objectively. That’s what makes it so frightening.

If I caught those conspiracy signals and wrote down everything they said in a book, I might become one of those “conspiracy nouveau riche” like Masami Uno, who makes a living off existing books about Jewish or Freemason conspiracies. But that seems too pathetic to bear. In fact, if you open the books of these conspiracy nouveau riche, you’ll find endless ramblings that are almost indistinguishable from the nonsense I receive. It makes me wonder if they’re not just my kind of people.

Well, as fellow scumbags, I can give them credit for being the absolute worst scum who make a living off senseless ethnic and organizational discrimination. But endlessly repeating the same conspiracy theories is just too lacking in skill. Hey, seriously, why don’t you guys draw straws, pick a representative, and have at least one of you get brutally murdered?

After all these years of supposedly exposing such incredible conspiracies, not a single one of you has been eliminated? Are you kidding me? Don’t you think you’re underestimating the concept of reality? Readers aren’t gonna stay stupid forever, you know.

Conspiracy theories are like a forty-year-old woman’s rotting vagina–once you get hooked, it’s damn hard to resist their charm. So, my condolences to those who’ve fallen for it. But why are people in this country so obsessed with exposing conspiracies about Jewish people or the Illuminati? Aren’t there any with the guts to brand their own “Japanese conspiracy” to rival them? Unfortunately, according to my mental radar, that kind of thing seems to exist only in manga aimed at young people.

Clinging to the delusion of “conspiracy history”–a fantasy created by sick minds–might be a decent way to live for some. It suits those lacking the will to face reality. Better to live with the clear anxiety of “it’s all part of the XX conspiracy” than vague unease. That way, you can blame anything unpleasant or annoying on that conspiracy and live in peace. What a cheap life. The Jewish people and Freemasons, who are resented to satisfy the frustrations of these worthless people, must be fed up. And to be resented under the guise of “justice” is just appalling. The fact that tens of thousands of people easily fall for such a scam explains why the world never gets any better. It’s exactly as I expected.

However, among those who receive denpa waves, those obsessed with “conspiracies” and create denpa documents to expose and fight against them are fortunate in that they gain a clear purpose in life. They wage a lifelong, solitary battle against a vast conspiracy organization (in their minds). And surely, a life with such purpose is truly a fulfilling, “happy” life. Even if that purpose is all an illusion.

In one of Murasaki’s writings (I can’t remember which one off the top of my head, sorry!), he mentions his aversion to psychiatric drugs, as he’d rather be lucid and suffering than sedated–even if that sedation eradicates the denpa waves. And honestly, I can understand where he’s coming from, but I can’t help but feel that a tiny amount of Seroquel at night would have done him some good. Sadly, he’s no longer with us (he was stabbed to death in 2010) to experience the strides psychiatry has made in the 90s when it comes to the treatment of patients with schizophrenia (which Murasaki is clearly struggling with, if it wasn’t already made abundantly clear).

To anyone struggling with mental illness, I urge you to take your prescribed medication. And if it isn’t working or is making you feel worse, please talk to a psychiatrist. And no, not a general practitioner or an ER doctor–the most they’ll do is sedate you or give you some shitty antidepressant like Lexapro.
